Holden Beach NC Vacation

Looking for a peaceful, relaxing island beach vacation? Holden Beach is a beautiful island beach town located in North Carolina's Brunswick County. It is small at just 3.4 square miles in area with an estimated population of over 1,000 people.

Holden Beach History:

In earlier times before the American Revolution, the land was bought by a man named Benjamin Holden who used the land for fishing and grazing for his farm. Later on, John Holden, who was Benjamin's grandson, started the first beachfront subdivision of the land called Holden Beach Resort. Holden later built Holden Beach Bridge. His son, Luther began building homes and renting land to vacationers in the 1940's. Back then someone could buy an ocean front home with property for a mere $600!

Vacationers also attend religious services at the only church on the island, interdenominational Holden Beach Chapel. The church was first built in 1940 but destroyed by Hurricane Hazel in 1954. The church was rebuilt soon after and travelers staying on the island attend mass and ceremonies there.
