Lahaina which is in West Maui is popular as it features a street full of shops and restaurants leading up to a scenic wharf area. From the wharf, tourists generally set out on sunset cruises or whale-watching expeditions. Lucky gazers may catch a glimpse of the endangered Humpback whales at times. Lahaina also offers a Historic Trail throughout its town as well as the Banyan Tree, the largest of its kind in the US at over 60 feet high.

A popular landmark to visit is definitely the Iao Needle in Iao Valley State Park. The Iao Needle is a 1200-foot high rock peak which overlooks Iao stream and makes for a great sightseeing/hiking adventure! Iao Valley also served as a historically significant area, with the 1790 Battle of Kepaniwai, where King Kamehameha was able to ultimately unite the islands and change the course of Hawaiian history! The park gates are generally open from 7am to 7pm.

A journey on the scenic Road to Hana (image above) is also strongly recommended. Tourists can travel the winding, curvy roads and see beautiful scenery including waterfalls and black sand beaches. Haleakala National Park is said to feature the most beautiful sunrise in the world, atop a cold and dormant volcano.

If you're an avid golfer, the island of Maui offers plenty of courses for you! Amongst the Maui greens are The Plantation Course, Wailea Gold Course, the Wailea Blue Course and The Bay course, each offering a unique golfing experience.

The weather and climates of Maui are also something to keep in mind when visiting the island. Generally Hawaii enjoys a two climate season. Usually rainfall occurs often, but the showers are brief, mostly happening during night or morning hours. Summer is definitely the warm, dry season in Hawaii and widespread rainstorms are a rarity. Keep in mind if visiting high mountains such as Haleakala National Park on Maui that the temperatures can reach below freezing.
