2013 Daytona 500 Contenders

Danica Patrick made history by becoming the first woman to ever win the pole position in the Daytona 500 or any Sprint Cup event in history for that matter. Previously no woman had ever qualified for a race higher than the 18th position, accomplished by Janet Guthrie.

Brad Keselowski is coming off a rough finish to his last race here where he finished in 32nd place, and has a lot to prove. The defending Sprint Cup Series Champion is looking to start the defense of his title strong, with a win here.

The winner of last year's race, Matt Kenseth can be considered a favorite again this year and is certainly someone many will be keeping their eyes glued to. He looks to earn his third checkered flag at Daytona putting him among an elite group of champions the likes of: Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough, Bobby Allison, Dale Jarrett, and Jeff Gordon.

Many will be betting on Tony Stewart to win this year. He has never won at Daytona but is a three time NASCAR champion, the most recent championship coming in 2011. In last years Daytona 500, Stewart led for two laps during the race but ended up slipping to a 16th place finish. Stewart has accomplished many things in his brilliant career but still wants to add this coveted race to his list or wins.

The three time 500 winner Jeff Gordon may have the most to prove at this year's race. Though he's dominated this track for six point wins total, he would very much like to prove he is still a top level driver with a win. He'll be driving a new Generation 6 car and history says Gordon does well when driving a new car.

Past champion Kurt Bush needs to prove he's still a player in the game as well. Coming off his recent firing from Penske Racing, Bush needs to do well at Daytona this year to start his season off on the right track.
